Tradition and innovation seem to be a theme for companies servicing the marine industry. Groco Marine is no different. Born in the basement of a Baltimore row house, entrepreneur Angus Roy Gross, Sr. took advantage of the industrial boom and immersed himself inventing products for the growing automotive and marine industries.
Both Angus and his son, Bill, shared a passion for boating, but it wasn’t until World War II when the demands of war production helped them decide which ‘fork in the road’ they would follow. Fortunately, for boaters, they decided to exert their manufacturing muscle toward the war effort.
At the request of the U.S. War Department, Groco began designing and producing tank engine coolers and water strainers for beach landing craft. These patented products are still in production.
As the marine industry grew along with the post-war economy, the father/son team continued to improve various onboard components and systems. They welcomed the third generation when grandson, Don, decided to learn the operation from the ground up in the 1960s. A little over a decade later, he took the helm of the company.
From manual machining in the early 1900s to the latest in CNC technology and design, Groco continues to innovate today.
We are proud to stock and ship hundreds of Groco marine parts, such as accumulator tanks, bronze pipe-to-hose adapters, deck washdown kits, engine flush kits, flange seacocks, full-flow ball valves, hull strainers, oil change systems, raw water strainers, thru hull fittings, vented loops, and more.
